Reading/Language Arts
We have a fantastic common core reading series that we will work through as a class this year. I am also going to use literacy stations that provide the kids with meaningful independent activities and allow me to work with small groups and focus on specific reading skills. Look for the "Family Times" that gives helpful information each Monday.
Spelling
Spelling words will be tied to the reading series. We'll take a weekly spelling test on Fridays after the first several weeks of school. We will take a pre-test on Monday and practice all week for the test. I encourage you to help your child focus on the spelling pattern featured each week instead of just memorizing the words. They will gain so much more!
Math
Our math series is also aligned to common core state standards. We'll be working on addition basics to start out the year. I no longer use timed math fact tests, but I encourage you to use games and apps to help your kids with math facts whenever you can!
Religion
Our religion curriculum is changing this year. The kids and I will be learning and using new materials together! The new program is anchored in the Sunday Gospels and the Mass. It is called Pflaum Gospel Weeklies.
